After sweeping neighborhoods and checking out clubs, Metro Manila cops are now taking the government’s anti-drug campaign to call centers and condominiums.
In fact, as ABS-CBN News reports, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) regional director Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde said they were already in touch with several call centers regarding the plan to conduct the “Oplan Tokhang” (knock and plead) in their offices.
“Tokhang” is a mashup of two Cebuano words: tok-tok (knock) and hangyo (request or plea). Thus, Oplan Tokhang can be translated as “Operation Knock and Plead.” The tactic was used during President Rodrigo Duterte’s stint as Davao City mayor. Cebuano is one of the Philippines’ major languages.
Albayalde added that the call centers to be covered by the Oplan Tokhang are within the jurisdiction of the Southern Police District (SPD): Pasay City, Makati City, Muntinlupa City, and Taguig City.
“However, we don’t want to disrupt business. Gagawin natin sa pinakamaluwag na oras, during shifting o labasan,” Albayalde said.
(“However, we don’t want to disrupt business. We will do during the most convenient time for them, when it’s time for shift changes or when they’re off work”)
The report added: “SPD personnel have also started visiting around 300 condominium units in Makati as part of its modified Tokhang information drive, which took on exclusive villages last month.”
Albayalde added that they “have established undisclosed targets residing in the condominium buildings.”
