According to ABS-CBN, there were only 12 fire incidents in Metro Manila from the period of Dec. 31, 2012 to Jan. 1, 2013. Last year, there were 21.
Despite the low number and the fact that no fatality was recorded, at least P4 million worth of properties got damaged and Fire Officer 2 Edgardo Medina of Caloocan had a small wound on his right cheek.
Chief Superintendent Santiago Laguna said that the low number of fire incidents can be attributed to the successful “Oplan Iwas Paputok” and also the media men who spread the word about being careful in celebrating this New Year.
