Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Superintendent Gil Meneses has a suggestion: buy locally-made firecrackers. Why? Well, they’re seizing smuggled and illegal pyrotechnics entering the country, according to interaksyon.com.
“We have good firecrackers here in the Philippines so we might as well patronize our firecrackers here. Alam kong safe ang pagkakagawa ng kanilang paputok,” said Meneses, who added that they are also coordinating with manufacturers in the country to check on dealers that illegally importing firecrackers and pyrotechnics.
The PNP chief also told reporters that they had already touch based with their counterparts in Customs and with some other agencies so they could get info to help them determine which manufacturers are importing illegally.
Their goal for the coming New Year celebrations this year is zero casualties and in line with this, they have already conducted the last phase of their fireworks safety seminar in Camp Crame last Tuesday. Last New Year, about 300 people were hurt because of firecrackers.
