A 3rd year Biology student from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) fell to his death after he reportedly jumped from the fourth floor of the school’s Main Building on Espana Boulevard, Manila.
Jonah Ortiz was pronounced dead by attending physicians at the UST Hospital at 7:40 pm Monday, five hours after he plummeted from the the fourth floor of the 85-year old building.
The College of Science where Ortiz is under, has yet to issue an official statement on his death. The university’s security office also hasn’t released an incident report.
UST’s publication, The Varsitarian, reported that a Pharmacy student witnessed the fall at around 2 p.m. Students from the Faculty of Civil Law whose classrooms are at the ground floor of the Main Building, recalled hearing a loud thud inside the building’s left wing.
Investigators have yet to confirm whether Ortiz’s death was indeed a suicide.
