UP has the best journ program in the country, CHED says

The University of the Philippines College of Mass Communications has the best journalism program in the country according to the Commission on Higher Education.

The CHED has designated UP’s journalism program a “Center for Excellence”, for “having the highest standards in instruction, research, community extension and professional development,” the Philippine Star reports.

Programs must have “industry recognition, evidence of innovation, academic research and output, local and international partnerships, active alumni programs and a graduate program” to qualify as a Center for Excellence.

The journalism programs of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and the University of Santo Tomas, both in the city of Manila, have meanwhile been designated “Centers of Development”, which means they have a “strong potential to develop (their) faculty in research.”

The CHED recognition comes with financial assistance for projects meant to develop and improve the programs.
