UE clerk’s killer arrested by Manila police

Operatives of the Manila Police District Station 4 on Wednesday arrested a 29-year-old construction worker responsible for the death of UE senior clerk Rowena Calo.

The suspect, Peejay Romero, was nabbed by police after allegedly visiting his mother. He and Calo were tenants at a house in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Police recovered the victim’s missing phone and PHP 15,000 inside a piggy bank from Romero.

Calo, 42, was found, gagged, strangled and naked inside her room on Monday afternoon.

According to the Philippine Star, Romero confessed to killing Calo, but he said it was only an accident. He claimed that he was drunk when he had an argument with her. The suspect further claimed that Calo had just finished taking a bath at the house’s common bathroom when he bumped into her.

However, MPD Station 4 commander Superintendent James Afalla said they have yet to confirm if Calo was indeed raped.
