At least 79 people were injured in separate bus accidents in Metro Manila less than twelve hours apart. If you add another 60 passengers who figured in an accident in Meycauayan, Bulacan on Monday night, that brings the number of casualties to around 140 passengers hurt in bus accidents in and near Metro Manila.
According to a DZMM report, an Everlasting Transport bus hit the post of the flyover on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Monday night, leaving 49 passengers injured. The bus was reportedly overloaded and running at around 100 kilometers per hour despite a 60-kph speed limit on Commonwealth.
A few hours later, at 6 a.m., at least 30 passengers of an Alro Trans bus were hurt after it hit a truck transporting rice in Navotas. The DZMM report quotes a passenger, Aljohn Coral, as saying the bus was also speeding when it hit the truck.
An accident in Meycauayan, Bulacan along the North Luzon Expressway meanwhile left 60 passengers hurt after it hit a Hilux pick-up. The driver of the pick-up was reportedly drunk when the accident happened.
Even discounting the accident in Bulacan, a lot of people were needlessly injured by buses that were reportedly running beyond safe speeds.
