Smart is better than Globe, according to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). This is based on their Quality of Service Benchmarking report for the third quarter. When it comes to all five service quality criteria (dropped and blocked calls, signal level and quality, and call set-up time), Smart Communications scored higher than Globe Telecom. However, both failed when it comes to dropped calls. According to Inquirer, 2.15 percent of Smart’s calls got cut; Globe did worse, with 2.75 percent of the calls getting cut.
Here are the rest of the results:
Blocked calls
Smart – 2.54 percent of calls failed to connect on the first dial
Globe – 2.75 percent of calls failed to connect on the first dial
Signal level (Smart had an edge over Globe)
Smart – -61.14 dBm
Globe – -69.1 dBm
Signal quality (quality of voice transmissions during calls; the closer to 0 the better)
Smart – 0.65
Globe – 1.03
Call set-up times (time between a number is dialed and the other line starts to ring)
Smart – 11.23 seconds
Globe – 11.56
The NTC has actually already called the attention of both companies; their deadline to explain why they shouldn’t be penalized (for failing when it comes to dropped calls) is on Monday.
