Singer gets attacked after checking ATM balance

Singer Joel Mendoza just finished checking his balance on a Metrobank ATM on Libertad Sreet in Mandaluyong last Tuesday at 4 a.m. when a man approached him, demanded for his wallet and got an envelope in his back pocket, containing P20,000. He was reaching out for his wallet when the man hit him in the head with a pistol — thrice. The man was about to shoot Mendoza when the victim’s driver rushed out of their parked SUV and wrestled with the man until he dropped his gun. This was when another man picked up the gun. Thanks to the driver, however, the two men fled the scene riding a scooter — and with Mendoza’s P20,000.

Mendoza is very pissed. Not only did he lose money and get physically hurt (he had to have six stitches on the head), he also didn’t get help from the passing tricycle drivers passing by during the incident. He said it also took the police four hours before they talked to him.

However, Senior Supt. Florendo Quiboyen defended his men, explaining that they received the report an hour after the incident took place.

One of the two attackers has already been identified, according to Inquirer.
