Making a Constitutional ban on political dynasties a reality is a job for Congress but it the Supreme Court cannot order it to do so, the court reiterated this week.
The Supreme Court junked two petitions asking it to issue an order requiring Congress to pass a law that will operationalize the ban on political dynasties, a Philippine Star report said. Among the petitioners is senatorial candidate Ricardo Penson and former vice president Teofisto Guingona III.
The court cited the lack of an enabling law for the ban on political dynasties and the separation of powers. It said the issue of dynasties is a political question best left to Congress.
