Sampaloc fire injures volunteer firefighter

A volunteer firefighter sustained first degree burns while responding to a fire that broke out in a commercial and residential complex in Sampaloc, Manila on Saturday.

The Manila Fire Department identified the firefighter as Jess Claudio who sustained injuries on his feet.

According to the Philippine Star, the  blaze razed down six commercial buildings and spread to nine houses. Some 20 families were rendered homeless by the fire.

Arson investigators said the blaze originated from the house of one Monet Sitioco at around 8 p.m. Damage to property was estimated at PHP2 million.
