Safety precautions for New Year’s celebrations

It’s that time of the year again…

Authorities are once again reminding the public to observe safety measures and refrain from using firecrackers to ring in 2013.

Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay, Jr. in particular is reminding residents of Bangkal, Pio del Pilar and Magallanes of the strict firecracker ban that has been in place since the First Philippine Industrial Corp. (FPIC) oil leak incident in 2010.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is also appealing to Filipinos not to set fire to tires on the streets during New Year’s Eve celebrations as this is not only harmful to the environment, but also destroys asphalt roads.

Inquirer said the MMDA has coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Protections so that fire trucks will be made available to respond to tire-burning incidents.
