Rum ‘smuggler’ caught at NAIA declares instant happy hour

Faced with having his bottle of rum confiscated by security at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday night, a tourist decided the best thing to do was have a rum cola right there.

The Philippine Star reports the unnamed foreigner was at the final security check-in for his flight to somewhere in Europe when baggage x-ray operators found a bottle of rum in his backpack. When ordered to dump the bottle in a bin for prohibited materials, he instead “sat beside the container, and drank the rum, which he mixed with soda and water.”

Told by airport police that drinking wasn’t allowed at the airport either, the man took a final defiant swig before dumping the contraband rum in the bin.

He was then escorted to his flight by airline personnel who probably secretly wished he would also ignore silly aviation safety reminders like the “fasten seatbelt” sign.
