Quezon City to subsidize public school graduations

The Quezon City government is setting aside P1.42 million, or P10,000 per school, to help pay for the graduation rites at its 142 public schools.

The money is meant to help public schools in view of a Department of Education policy barring schools from collecting compulsory graduation fees. The money can be used for rental of a stage, a sound system, chairs, and decorations.

Quezon City has the most public schools in the Philippines, with 96 elementary and 46 secondary schools under its care. Around 40,130 elementary school students and 31, 135 high school students are expected to graduate this month.

All public elementary and high schools have been required to comply with the graduation policy set by Department of Education Order No. 9, series of 2013 to encourage austerity measures in schools, including wearing of school uniform during graduation rites.
