QC cops kill robbery suspects in shootout

Two suspected robbers were killed by police in Barangay Mariana, Quezon City early Tuesday morning after one of them accidentally fired his gun, alerting a passing patrol car.

According to Police Senior Superintendent Richard Albano, acting director of the Quezon City Police District, the suspects broke into a house on 10th Street, Barangay Mariana. “However, for an unknown reason, one of the suspects accidentally fired his handgun,” police said. This forced the suspects to leave with nothing.

Police officers in a patrol car nearby heard the gunshot and went to investigate. They saw a dark blue tricycle at the corner of 4th Street and tried to flag it down but the suspects, who were inside, allegedly fired at them.

“At this instance, the lawmen had no choice but to retaliate, thus a short gun battle ensued, which resulted in the deaths of the two suspects,” Albano said.

Police recovered an ACP bolt cutter, and two Caliber 38 handguns from the suspects. The victims, a married couple in their late 50s, had been sleeping when they gun went off in their house. The gunshot woke them and they saw the “scampering suspects”, Police Superintendent Norberto Babagay, station commander of Police Station 11, said.
