Prepaid electricity to launch this June

Manila Electric Co. is launching its prepaid electricity this June. However, according to Interaksyon, this will be over a limited area only, but it will be officially rolling out the service this December.

The commercial pilot will start in 2,000 houses in Angono, Rizal. The distributor has actually already done pilot tests in 40 households there last December.

After this, Meralco will evaluate the service before they apply for a permit from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

The plan is that after the service, coverage will slowly increase to places like Binangonan, Pasig and Taytay. The denominations for prepaid load are P100, P200, P300, P500 and P1,000.

Meralco can install the new meter within 24 hours after you go their business center and apply by registering your cellphone numbers, which would be linked to the SIM of the prepaid meter.
