A suspected car thief was shot dead while three other cohorts were arrested in an anti-carjacking operation along Dona Soledad Avenue, Better Living, Paranaque over the weekend.
The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) identified the deceased as Salvador Mamac. He was wounded when his team of carjackers engaged police in a shootout at around 12.30 p.m. on Saturday.
Mamac and his companions, including an alleged police officer from Basilan, were trying to steal a Toyota Altis with a red plate. Police were able to shoot Mamac and one other suspect but they initially got away.
However, the taxi cab they flagged down reported their whereabouts to the police. HPG then arrested Mamac, Marvin Winston and Omar Tarasan at a house in Puentebello Subdivision, San Antonio, Paranaque City.
The two wounded were brought to the hospital for treatment but Mamat succumbed to his wounds on Monday, ABS CBN News reported.
