Philpost to abandon Manila building

After more than 86 years of holding office at the iconic Manila Post Office building, the Philippine Postal Corp will be transferred to a temporary building in Quezon City.

The neoclassical building which is considered one of Manila’s most beautiful landmarks will be abandoned due to its high upkeep.

The government agency needs to reduce their operational cost.Plans to convert the building into a public-private partnership is being explored.

Inquirer News reported that consortium behind Fullerton Hotel in Singapore, which was also a postal office before being converted into a hotel, is said to be interested in the place.

In the meantime, Empire East Land Holdings Inc. will provide PHLPost with a temporary building in Quezon City.
