Philippines passes aviation safety inspection

The Philippines has “successfully addressed and resolved” safety concerns that have restricted flights by local airlines to the U.S. and Europe.

Interaksyon.com reports an International Civil Aviation Organization audit team sent to inspect the state of Philippine aviation found “positive response and active commitment” from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. The ICAO inspection team, in a letter, assured CAAP that it will recommend the lifting of restrictions on Philippine carriers.

The positive review from ICAO could lead to Philippine carriers being allowed to operate in the U.S. and in European Union member states.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Authority downgraded Philippine carriers to “Category 2”, which limited operations to San Francisco and Los Angeles. In 2010, the EU banned Philippine carriers from its airspace over “significant safety concerns” raised by ICAO.
