Philippines one of the most generous countries, according to study

The UK-based Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) just released the results of their study and it says that Filipinos are among the most generous people in the whole world. ABS-CBN News reported that the Philippines is among the top 5 countries “devoting the most amount of time to charity work and with the countries having the largest number of people volunteering their time.”

According to the report, the Philippines has more people doing volunteer work (44%) than in any other country in Southeast Asia, earning a fifth ranking globally because of this. The country’s World Giving Index score also exceeds its five-year average by four percentage points.

The Philippines placed 47th when it comes to giving money, with 32% donating money to charity.

When it comes to helping strangers the Philippines ranked 26th.

Overall, the Philippines placed 17th worldwide. Among the 146 nations involved in the World Giving Index 2012, Australia, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and the US occupied the top spots.

The more interesting question: Which countries are the least generous?

It’s Greece and Montenegro.
