More than 700 concerned netizens have indicated support of an online petition urging the Manila Polo Club in Makati to spare the cats who live on club grounds.
The petition, started by CARA Welfare Philippines, says the cats should be allowed to stay on club grounds instead of captured by the Makati veterinarian’s office and, unless adopted, euthanized within days.
“They keep the rodent population down, which is necessary for the well-being of the horses in the stables as well as the members. Rat urine can carry Leptospirosis which is harmful to people and animals,” CARA said on the petition.
It also said eliminating the cats at Manila Polo Club, many of whom have been spayed and neutered, will encourage other stray cats to take over. The group said the cats should be allowed to stay since they can’t reproduce anyway.
“Due to the reasons stated above, it is important that we all rally to make sure the Manila Polo Club Cats stay where they are! Please indicate next to your name if you are a member of the Manila Polo Club. The more members we have on this petition, the better!,” the group said.
