Pasig Mayor Eusebio leaves the mayoral race to his wife

Pasig City Mayor Robert “Bobby” Eusebio surprised his constituents by withdrawing his candidacy for the 2013 mayoral elections under the Nacionalista Party and instead endorsing his wife, Maribel, to take his place.

Eusebio was supposed to run for his third and last term in the upcoming elections, having served the city as mayor since 2007 when he defeated Pasig City Representative Robert Jaworski, Jr. Sources say he withdrew from the race because he wants to go back to a private life.

His wife, Maribel, is the sister of Rolando Andaya, Jr. who is the representative for the 1st District of Camarines Sur 1st. She has served Pasig City through various groups and organizations that promote women’s rights and welfare. The Eusebio family has been active in the city’s local politics since 1992 during the term as mayor of Eusebio’s father, Vicente, followed by his mother, Soledad in 2001 to 2004.

According to Inquirer News, Maribel Eusebio will be running against Ismael Mejia and Wainwright Rivera.
