The country’s weather bureau has had launched a P57-million weather prediction project on Thursday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has earmarked the budget for operation and maintenance costs of their new COSMO numerical weather prediction model.
In a Philippine Start report, PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel Servando said the COSMO equipment was given to the country for free by the German government. The project is set to improve localized weather forecasting by automating the system.
COSMO is one of the latest developments in terms of digital forecasting. Weather observers and forecasters in different regions are already being trained to use the new system.
