Old overnight parking rates back in Manila Chinatown

Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has issued a memorandum reinstating the old overnight parking rates at the Manila Chinatown area.

This development results from complaints and protests from residents who are burdened with the steep prices of overnight parking in the commercial district after the new parking meters were installed.

Overnight parking used to cost only P1,000 a year, based on a city ordinance. The new parking meter system however, has set a flat rate of P70 for overnight parking. This amounts to a cost of over P25,000 annually.

According to Inquirer News, Mayor Lim has agreed to reinstate the P1,000 annual overnight parking rate. He also issued a memorandum to set the time at 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. of the following day. It however, covers Zones 25 to 29 of the Binondo district only.
