NSO officer nabbed for faking annulment papers

An employee of the National Statistics Office (NSO) has been arrested for allegedly demanding money to provide assistance to an overseas Filipino worker who wanted to have her marriage annulled.

Arnelson Taguiam, who holds the rank of Administrative Aide IV at the NSO, has been arrested for falsifying the annulment documents of complainant  Dolly delos Reyes.

Taguiam, who has worked at the NSO for 30 years, allegedly asked for P250,000 from the complainant. Delos Reyes works in Japan and transferred the money to Taguiam in several installments.

However, when Delos reyes submitted the documents  to the Philippine consulate in Japan, she was told that her papers were spurious. Taguiam then asked for another P20,000 to have the papers fixed.

NBI agents arrested Taguiam when Delos Reyes handed him money at a restaurant in Manila.

Taguiam has been charged with usurpation of authority, violating the anti-red tape law and estafa at  the Manila prosecutor’s office, the Philippine Star reported.
