NPDC wants you to keep Rizal Park clean this New Year

The Rizal Park in Manila almost became Smokey Mountain when after Christmas Day, the 500,000 people that visited it left 50 truckloads of garbage.

Now the guys from National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) are afraid it’d be worse this New Year because four million people are expected to go there to mark the start of 2013 – twice as much as last year’s attendees.

According to Inquirer, NPDC Executive Director Juliet Villegas is expecting a 100% increase in attendance because they have new attractions, plus the events are free. Even foreigners are expected to go to Rizal Park, which is tagged as the Times Square of Southeast Asia.

For security, about 300 policemen, security guards and volunteers will be deployed and closed circuit television cameras will be in place.

The guys from NPDC are appealing to everyone who plan to attend the events to be more responsible by bringing their own trash bags

“Families who come to visit could bring their own trash bag or dispose of their garbage properly. In our experience, park goers just leave their trash wherever they want,” said Kenneth Montegrande, NPDC spokesperson.
