Global information and measurement company Nielsen Holdings has revealed that carbonated softdrinks continue to be the top selling consumer goods in the country with a market value of P79.6 billion.
From June 2011 to June 2012, sodas topped the list of Nielsen’s 50 Consumer Packaged Goods, which is a comprehensive report that helps marketers compete more effectively by directing them to the strongest-selling categories in retail outlets.
Nielsen Philippines Managing Director Stuart Jamieson disclosed that wines and spirits were in the second place with a market value of P43.1 billion.
The biscuits category, on the other hand, moved two notches up to third place mainly because of active promotions, wider product availability and new product launches. Biscuits have a market value of P31 billion. Powdered milk (P22.1 billion), instant noodles (P21.3 billion) and snack foods (20.9 billion), meanwhile, maintained the same ranking as last year.
In terms of growth, Nielsen reported that instant coffee mixes registered the biggest growth in the Top 50 categories. It moved up to the 9th slot with a 56 percent value increase. Toilet or bath soap clinched the top 10 slot, GMA News reported.
