Experts at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said they will have to take a closer look at the alleged new fault line which has been discovered a team of geologists. The fault line is said to pass through the Quezon City area and also intersects with the Marikina fault line.
The discovery was made by renowned geologist Dr. Kelvin Rodolfo who noticed that while other areas in the metropolis seemed to be sinking due to ground water extraction, there was a portion on the other side that appeared to be rising.
The fault time theory is still being closely studied by the team of Dr. Mahar Lagmay, who heads the DOST’s multibillion-peso Project Noah (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards), a comprehensive flood forecasting and warning system.
For its part, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said there is not enough evidence to support Dr. Rodolfo’s theory, Inquirer News reported.
