NCRPO to look into “art-napping” cases

The National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) on Tuesday vowed to go after thieves of prized artworks and encouraged the public to report cases of such theft to their office.

NCRPO chief Director Leonardo Espina said in an Inquirer News report that most of these cases go unreported and this is why police are never able to go after the criminals This in turn, he said, encourages more thefts.

Espina has directed Manila Police Director Chief Supt. Alex Gutierrez to investigate a foiled robbery attempt at the studio of famous artist Ramon Orlina in Sampaloc, Manila.

Orlina said he had already lost several artworks to thieves which led him to have closed circuit television cameras installed for his protection.
