The National Bureau of Investigation has arrested four men in Pasay City for trying to sell gold bars in the parking lot of a mall.

According to the Manila Bulletin, Edgar “Bong” Cabeza, Romeo Cabeza, Marlene Buenaventura, and Marc Buenaventura were caught in an entrapment operation. The operation was prompted by a complaint by Roberto de Castro, whom the suspects allegedly offered to sell P5 million in gold to.

The suspects allegedly asked De Castro to pay P250,000 to bring two gold bars “from an island located in Lucena City” to Manila, with the balance to be paid on delivery.

“However, the said promise never materialized and this prompted the victim to file a case before the NBI. But before the Complainant arrived at the bureau, De Castro said that Edralin promised him that the gold will be delivered to him on March 22. This gave us the opportunity to conduct an entrapment operation,” NBI regional director Elfren Meneses said.

The NBI recovered a fake gold bar weighing 75 kilograms, the Bulletin reported.

The suspects will be charged with Swindling under the Revised Penal Code.
