The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has asked the help of experts from the Philippine Heart Association to offer professional intervention to smokers who want to quit.
The MMDA said cardiologists from the PHA could help the agency accommodate more smokers who want to receive professional counseling.
The MMDA has a cessation clinic where some 4,000 smokers have already received counseling and behavior modification training to help them quit smoking.
The MMDA is intensifying its anti-smoking campaign all over the metropolis. Environmental enforcers, in fact, have the authority to issue tickets to citizens caught smoking in government offices, bus and jeepney terminals, loading and unloading bays, pedestrian passes, schools, and hospitals, the Manila Bulletin reported.
