Metro Manila prisoners can now study high school

Being imprisoned should not be a hindrance to getting an education.

The opening of the June 2013 school year will be an interesting one for some 29 inmates of the Metro Manila District Jail (MMDJ) .  While their respective criminal cases are being tried, they will be part of the open high school program inside the prison where they will be taught according to the current secondary school curriculum.

Recently, the Upper Bicutan National High School (UBNHS) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology  signed a memorandum of agreement that will allow inmates to continue their high school education. The students will be given  free uniforms and school supplies.

Jail warden Chief Insp. Emmanuel Bangasan explained that there will be different teachers for  different subjects, the Journal reported.
