Malacanang and Bishops regret Pope Benedict’s resignation

President Benigno Aquino III  and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) had released separate sstatements expressing regret over Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation.

The Pope resigned citing physical inability to assume the rigors of the Papacy. His abdication takes effect on Feb. 28. The CBCP and President is asking Filipinos to pray for Pope Benedict as well as the upcoming conclave. Cardinals all over the world will be electing a new Pope to replace him.

During his papacy, San Pedro Calungsod, the Philippines’ second saint was canonized, and in 2012, Luis Antonio Tagle was made a cardinal, ABS CBN News reported.
