The Makati City Council has approved the allocation of P3.3 million to support the city’s scholars at the University of the Philippines and Philippine Normal University.
According to a press statement, the scholarship covers school fees, an allowance for books, and a monthly stipend of P4,000. The city government reimburses tuition fees and releases the allowances and stipends every semester.
The scholarships, which are renewable each semester, are open to Makati residents with a gross annual family income of not more than P250,000 and who are enrolled at either UP or PNU. Scholars have to maintain a grade of at least 2.0 or 85 for a load of 15 units.
The program, which began in 2005, has produced two batches of graduates, six of whom did so with honors. At present, the city supports 10 scholars in UP and 15 in PNU.
