Makati establishments have been given another extension in the implementation of the plastic ban courtesy of Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. The Philippines prime city’s Ecological Solid Waste Management Act was signed into law in January 2012, which mandated that the city’s sales and retail stores and restaurants would have until the end of 2012 to use plastic. So far, this has been the second reprieve for the city’s retailers and stores.
In June 2013, Mayor Binay said, “The city is allowing the use of plastic packaging to give business owners time to deplete their [plastic inventory].” At the time, he said that the city government will start enforcing the ban in January 2013, Inquirer News reported.
