Not to be outdone on Rabies Awareness Month, Makati City is offering free rabies shots in its barangays, making it easier for residents to have their dogs vaccinated against the disease.
According to the city’s website, the rabies shots will be offered in the mornings and afternoons.
“For this year’s free vaccination drive, we have scheduled morning and afternoon sessions to give pet owners who have day jobs to bring their pets for vaccination in the afternoon or after work,” Makati Veterinary Services Office head Dr. Vivien Manalastas said.
Pet owners can bring their pets to the following barangays from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.:
Carmona, March 12; Singkamas, March 13; Valenzuela, March 14; San Isidro, March 15; Olympia, March 18; and Poblacion, March 21.
Vaccinations will meanwhile be available from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the following barangays:
Northside, March 13; Southside, March 14; South Cembo, March 15; East Rembo, March 18; West Rembo, March 19; Pembo, March 20; and Bangkal, March 22.
“We urge pet owners to make time for this very important task aimed to protect their families from a deadly disease, especially with the onset of summer, during which pets are more prone to rabies infection,” Manalastas said.
According to the city’s records, there have been zero deaths from rabies from 2010 to 2012. More people were bitten by animals in 2012, though. There were 3,272 cases in Makati last year versus 2,668 in 2011.
