Maid steals PHP2.5 million in jewelry

Could she have been a victim of the budol-budol gang?

A 21-year-old house helper was arrested on Monday for allegedly stealing some PHP2.5 million worth of jewelry from her employer in Quezon City.

The maid was identified as Isabelita Buhat of Davao City. Her employer, Glendora Tiu, 44, of Barangay Pag-Ibig sa Nayon,QC. filed the complaint against her. Tiu is a professor at Dela Salle University.

According to reports, Buhat was said to have broken into the locked drawers at the master’s bedroom. The maid allegedly carted off with P22,000 in cash and pieces of jewelry amounting to PHP2.5 million.

In her defense, the maid said she received a phone call informing her that her employer had been in an accident and that she needed to bring money and jewelry to her in Caloocan City. Buhat further claimed that she turned over the money and valuables to a man named Alex and then returned home.

Police are still looking into the case.
