LTFRB grounds Nova bus fleet for a month

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended the entire fleet of buses of the Nova Auto Transport company for 30 days.

The month-long preventive suspension was brought about by two separate accidents involving their buses. The first one happened along East Avenue last Tuesday, while the second one took place at Belfast Avenue yesterday and left one fatality.

According to reports, an investigation is ongoing to determine if the franchise of Nova Auto Transport’s 76 buses should be revoked altogether.

The LTFRB has ordered the bus company to surrender the yellow plates of the buses within five days. They were also given 72 hours to submit an explanation as to why their franchise should not be revoked.

Nova Auto Transport, whose buses ply the Baclaran-Lagro via Fairview/EDSA route, is said to be the bus company with the most number of accidents last year. The LTFRB said they had 16 accidents from January 2010 to September 2011 alone. At least three people have died in these accidents, Abs-cbnnews.com reported.
