Criminals, beware – especially those who plan to do bad stuff at the Rizal Park. According to philstar.com, there is now a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system installed there – and it doesn’t just recognize faces from the police database, it also alerts the good guys.
According to Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) made such a move in preparation for the holiday season, when a lot of tourists will be visiting.
“To bring in more tourists to a tourist spot, peace and order must be guaranteed, just like in our Rizal Park. We have to give tourists our assurance that they are safe within the confines of our national park,” he said.
The CCTV system of the park is linked to the databases of the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation, making it easy for police to act on reported incidents within the park in real time.
Tourists will benefit not just from the CCTV cameras set up in various areas around the park, they will also find useful an information and desk help that has a touchscreen display at the NPDC office lobby, which is near the tourist police station near the Rizal monument and the playground.
