A Japanese national is in more hot water after trying to bribe agents of the National Bureau of Investyigation (NBI) with PHP1.5 million in exchange for his freedom.
On Saturday, NBI agents arrested Hamamoto Moriaki, who has an outstanding warrant of arrest in Pasig City for a car theft case. He was nabbed at the Networld Hotel in Pasay City and was later brought to the NBI headquarters where he allegedly offered a PHP1.5-million bribe to NBI investigators Eduardo Villa and Rodelio Velez and agents Marie Catherine Nolasco, Martinelli Cobsen, Aubren Cosidon and Tom Mocnangan in exchange for his immediate release.
According to the Inquirer, the Japanese national even threatened the agents that an influential person will call their superiors and order his release even if they refuse to accept the money. An entrapment operation followed and Moriaki was re-arrested for bribery.
