Inside job eyed in convent robbery

Police officials strongly suspect that the convent payroll heist on Holy Tuesday was an inside job.

According to the Philippine Star, Quezon City police are looking at the involvement of driver Efren Padilla in the robbery at the Convent of the Holy Spirit in Barangay Immaculate Conception.

The convent lost P417,934.43 in payroll money, petty cash and foreign currencies in the heist. The employees were held at gunpoint and were told to hand over the money including their personal possessions.

Padilla was told by police that he will have to undergo a lie detector test. The suspect then fled to Pangasinan a day after the robbery.

Employees and nuns said Padilla behaved differently before the robbery took place. He was also said to have been talking on the phone more prior to the incident.
