Informal settlers or slum dwellers living inside the historic walled city of Intramuros, Manila will be transferred to a Gawad Kalinga low-cost housing site in Trece Martires, Cavite province, starting March.
According to Intramuros Administration chief Jose Capistrano Jr., some 120 families will go to one of the three Gawad Kalinga Villages in Cavite. All in all, there are around 3,400 families living inside Intramuros.
The 64-hectare, Spanish era enclave, is being revived as a historical and cultural hub.
Each low-cost home is being built in partnership with Gawad Kalinga, and costs P110,000 each, Inquirer News reported.
