The hacktivists collectively known as Anonymous Philippines are back. According to Inquirer, they struck again yesterday, “the day of hearing oral arguments in the Supreme Court for Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, a law that protesters say threatens freedom of speech.”
This time, Private X (a member of the Anonymous Philippines) attacked the sites of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and noontime show “Eat Bulaga!”
As usual, they posted the message they have been using for the previous sites they defaced: “1987 Philippine Constitution. Article III, Section 4 states that ‘NO LAW SHALL BE PASSED ABRIDGING the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances.’ What happened to the law? Are all laws meant to be broken? Are they made to fool people, deprive them of their rights in exchange for what we believe as ‘Heavens for Politicians’? Some say we are against the law because it would hinder our ‘criminal activities,’ but WE do not oppose the said law in any way, if it is for the greater good.”
The homepage of the QCPD now has a black webpage with the logo of Anonymous Philippines and a statement entitled “Protect Our Right to Freedom of expression.” It hasn’t been fixed as of press time.
On the other hand, the “Eat Bulaga!” site’s About page was turned into a plain white page with the phrase “u r alone” in black.
