Grenade-throwing incident prompts DOJ to appoint new BuCor OIC

After last Friday’s grenade throwing incident at the New Bilibid Prison, DOJ has named a new officer-in-charged for the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima assigned NBI Officer Rafael Z. Ragos as BuCor OIC. Before his new appointment, Ragos was the NBI Deputy Director for Comptroller Services. He will now be supervising the daily operations of the BuCor, but his duties exclude policy-making decisions, long-term contracts approval and the imposition of sanctions on erring employees.

Ragos replaces Manuel Co who is now the Administrator of the Board of Pardons and Parole. Co took over the responsibility of BuCor OIC after Dir. Gaudencio Pangilinan filed for indefinite leave of absence after convicted murderer Rolito Go was abducted under his watch, Interaksyon.com reported.
