Catholics who went to the Binondo Church as part of their Visita Iglesia were treated to free rice cakes, water and free medical assistance by the family of Gerry Chua, owner of the popular Eng Bee Tin chain of stores.
The unmistakable purple-colored tents were set up by the family to offer assistance not only to members of the Binondo community, but also to regular churchgoers in the area.
In an ABS CBN News report, Chua said that this has been their family’s Lenten tradition for the last 8 years.
Gerry Chua also organizes the volunteer firefighters brigade in the area and has donated fire trucks to the City of Manila from his earnings from the store.
