Father-son political tandems face off in Caloocan City

In Caloocan City, voters only need to remember two family names: Echiverri and Malapitan because control of Caloocan City has apparently come down to these two families.

According to the Daily Tribune, voters have “the chance to choose intelligently between the father-and-son tandems of incumbent Mayor Enrico ‘Recom’ Echiverri and son Liga ng Barangay sa Pilipinas president and Councilor RJ Echiverri and District I Rep. Oscar Malapitan and son Councilor Along Malapitan.”

Mayor Echiverri is on his last term and is running to represent the city’s first district in Congress. He will be running against the younger Malapitan. Representative Malapitan is, meanwhile, running for mayor against Councilor Echiverri.

The Echiverris are allied with the administration Liberal Party while the Malapitans are with the United Nationalist Alliance.

Caloocan City is classified as a First Class City, which means it has an annual income of at least P400 million.
