Extension of Commonwealth speed limit coverage effective today

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the 60 kilometer per hour speed limit along the “killer highway”, Commonwealth Avenue, will cover up to the Doña Carmen area in Fairview.

The new policy was implemented today in the hope of minimizing the number of vehicular accidents and pedestrian deaths occuring in the area.

The old area of coverage only included Philcoa up to the Sandiganbayan area. In addition to this new policy, the MMDA has also deployed more traffic enforcers armed with speed guns.

According to ABS CBN News, there have been more than 23,000 violations of the speed limit rule in Commonwealth Avenue since it was first implemented in 2011. Violators will be fined PHP1,200.
