Escape of driver in fatal Skyway crash probed

Did he really escape or was he allowed to go free?

This is the question that National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Leonardo Espina and Highway Patrol Group (HPG) director Chief Superintendent Arazzad Subong are asking two members of the HPG over their failure to arrest a businessman who figured in the Skyway accident last Saturday.

The NCRPO and the HPG said they will impose administrative sanctions against the two men if evidence warrants.

At the same time, HPG agents are following up leads on the whereabouts of suspect Baldwin Co. He fled the police after he was discharged from the Asian Hospital Medical Center in Muntinlupa City shortly after the accident.

Co, 50, has been charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property. He was the driver of the speeding black Ford GT Mustang without a license plate that hit a Mitsubishi Adventure driven by Chief Inspector Ferdinand Rosario last March 30 along the Skyway in Sucat, Parañaque.

The policeman died in the accident. HPG agents were said to have been watching Co while he was at the Asian Hospital, the Philippine Star reported.
