DTI tests Christmas lights brands for safety, only 20 pass

As Christmas approaches homes are once again brightly lit with twinkling Christmas lights that pose as fire hazards. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) warns consumers to keep safety in mind by purchasing only lights that have import commodity clearance (ICC) stickers, which means they passed the tests made by the DTI-Bureau of Product Standards.

DTI also instructs consumers to read the labels on the packaging and any user manuals that come with the product. This is to ensure that the product is of certified quality and that buyers exercise the proper use of the product to avoid potential dangers.

Aside from buying safety-tested lights, the DTI also urges the public to check their homes for any faulty wiring and to observe safety precautions such as unplugging the Christmas lights and other electrical products when not in use.

DTI has provided a list of certified brands of Christmas lights.
