Dogs at Pasig City Dog Pound need homes

At least 22 dogs at the Pasig City Dog Pound have to find homes within 10 days or they will be put to sleep. This has prompted an online campaign to find people willing to adopt the dogs before time runs out.

According to web designer Maxine Dimanlig who put up a website for the campaign, she found out about the dogs after a street dog her family had been feeding disappeared. She and her sister found the dog, whom they called Mangy, at the Pasig City Dog Pound with 22 other dogs.

The dogs were living in cramped conditions, she said. “The dogs share board with all sorts of debris, metal containers, old bleacher seats—and they did not have food or water trays. The cages were all mashed together, like sub-cages with one very big cage room, with two or three dogs within each cage, many of them middle-sized dogs,” she said.

She said the Pasig City government has the dogs put to sleep if they are not claimed or adopted within three days of being captured. Dimanlig was able to plead with the pound to hold off on putting the dogs to sleep for 10 days to give people time to adopt the strays.

Willing to help?

The Pasig City Dog Pound is at the Pasig City Fire Station on C. Raymundo Avenue. Dimanlig said there is a charge of P150 to claim a dog at the pound to cover an anti-rabies shot for the dog.

“If you will get one, it would be best to get them a check up with a vet and also have them quickly checked for Parvo since they stayed in a very dirty place. Bring your own leash so that the caretakers at the pound won’t have to use wire on their neck,” she said.
